Hi Irene,

Buffer actually did a blog post smaller brands that are building up their following. They concluded that "...accounts with less than 1,000 followers where a post with 11 hashtags received an average of 77.66 interactions." Therefore, they recommend 11 or more hashtags. Which, makes a lot of sense if you think about it. The more (relevant) hashtags, the more people have the opportunity to see your images.

Interesting, but representative? We are talking Instagram accounts with 200 000 followers each, in average... That is a huge number of followers!!! Then I would think loyalty is what matters and not hashtags... The number of hashtags is then rather irrelevant... We already know that big names can do whatever they like in social media, as they do get followers no matter what.... How about those who would like to get more attention??

Agree with Alex, that a more representative selection and survey would have been the more interesting.

This is great data and very interesting, and very interested in the Instagram results. However from your first sentence ( 1,500 active Instagram accounts that posted 135,000+ posts in the 3-month period and had 300+ million followers combined.) It seems as thought well establish pages were analyzed (ie. 100k follower range).

It would be interesting to see this same study done for pages that are looking to grow and that are not established brands withing the 10k-50k range and see if the results differ. Would also love to see data on the rate and success of orgranic follower growth on instagram. Seems to be a "hidden" secret, and many suggest that hashtag use is important to follower growth.
